Coming Up Next: Taking Time for Leadership Self-Care
Introducing Our New “Leadership Reset” Series
I was reviewing the Leadership Council topic submissions in preparation for this new series, and I noticed that multiple anonymous submissions came in around the same topic: self-care for leaders.
More specifically, what good self-care looks like when you factor in personality type.
It’s a great question – and one I’ve been wanting to dig into. So in April, that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
You’re invited to join me for A Leadership Reset next month.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by the chaotic state of the world right now, or burned out from increasing demands at work or at home, this reset is a way to first see where you might be inadvertently getting in your own way when it comes to self-care – and then take a practical look at how to rebalance into more sustainable leadership.
This month, we’re foregoing a challenge to instead dive deep into each individual personality type. We’ll have 16 focused articles – one for each type.
We’ll be kicking this new series off next Monday (March 30th). I hope you’ll join me!
Rising Leadership Burnout
According to DDI’s Global Leadership Forecast 2025, which surveyed over 10,000 leaders across industries, 71% of leaders across the world say they’re dealing with significantly higher stress levels than when they started their current role.
The same study also found that burnout was pervasive among leaders, and that comes with a cost.
According to an article from Forbes, leaders who face burnout are:
34% less likely to outperform colleagues
3.5X more likely to leave their job to protect well-being
Half as likely to feel engaged
The thing is, the same qualities that make you good at leading – the sense of responsibility, the high standards, the way you stay attuned to what your team needs – are often the same qualities that make it hardest to stop, rest, and actually recover.
We can’t control all aspects of company culture, of course, so we’re going to focus on what you can control – your own actions.
What’s Coming in April
We’ll spend April looking at self-care through the lens of personality – not as a one-size-fits-all checklist, but as something that looks different depending on how you lead, how you recharge, and where your blind spots tend to hide.
Each article focuses on one personality type and walks through three things: the self-sabotage patterns leaders of that type are most likely to fall into, what restorative self-care looks like, and three strategies to help you find your way back to something sustainable.
By understanding where your tendencies might work against your own well-being, you’ll come away with:
A clearer picture of how your personality shapes your relationship with rest and recovery
Practical strategies you can actually use to reset – ones that fit your personality type
A more honest read on which of your habits are serving you and which ones are costing you more than you realize
The goal of this series isn’t to tell you to slow down or take a bubble bath. It’s to help you see, clearly and specifically, where your own tendencies are working against your well-being – so you can make a real choice about that, rather than just letting it run.
Most of the self-sabotage patterns we’ll cover don’t look like self-sabotage. They look like being a good leader. And that’s exactly what makes them worth examining.
